Microflow CVO’s E21-30D200 emulsifier is an 8x version of the E21-4D25 emulsifier, the increased capacity achieved by numbering up the functional unit cell. It is designed for creating microemulsions by flowing a dispersed phase stream through very small orifices into a continuous phase stream. This device also has an addition stage for dilution or quenching emulsion reactions. The E21-30D200 device has been used to create a uniform distribution of 30um microspheres. Note droplet or microsphere sizes are dependent upon the chemistry system and flow conditions, so some trials will likely be necessary to determine optimal conditions for your process.
The E21-30D200 emulsifier is sized for the following nominal flow rates (1cP fluid at 5 psi):
· Dispersed phase = 10 ml/min
· Continuous phase = 20 ml/min (2:1 CP to DP ratio)
· Dilution/Quench = 170 ml/min (5.6:1 dilution of emulsion stream)
· Total flow = 200 ml/min
The E21-30D200 made of 316 stainless steel and has 1/8” OD inlet and outlet tubes. Standard compression fittings with stainless steel ferrules are appropriate for connecting to the E21-30D200 tubes. The E21-30D200 can be operated at very high pressures (several thousand psi) and temperatures (over 800°C), enabling special reaction conditions such as maintaining liquid phase above boiling points and supercritical conditions.
If transitioning to or from polymer tubing, nylon ferrules should be used on the polymer tubing end of the connector.
A 15um or smaller inline filter on the dispersed phase inlet is highly recommended.
